My visit to the Sherlock Holmes Museum at 221B Baker Street

While exploring London, I made a stop at one of the most famous fictional addresses in the world, 221B Baker Street. As a fan of unique and slightly quirky attractions, visiting the Sherlock Holmes Museum felt like something I couldn’t skip.

From the outside, the building looks like a typical Victorian townhouse, but stepping through the door immediately changed the atmosphere. The narrow staircases and old wooden interiors made me feel like I had walked straight into another era.

Each floor recreates the living quarters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. I found myself slowing down to notice all the small details, from handwritten notes scattered across tables to chemistry equipment and Holmes’ iconic armchair sitting by the fireplace. The setup felt immersive without being overly staged, which made wandering through the rooms surprisingly enjoyable.

What I liked most was how relaxed the experience felt. Instead of simply looking at exhibits behind glass, I could move around freely and take my time exploring each corner. Just take note that if you are carrying a backpack, you will need to carry it infront. Every room seemed to tell its own little story.

The upper floors featured scenes inspired by the detective’s cases, adding a slightly dramatic touch to the visit. Some displays were a little eerie, but mostly in a fun and theatrical way rather than anything too intense.

The staff dressed in period costumes added to the overall charm and made the experience feel playful. It didn’t feel like a formal museum visit but more like stepping into a story that had been carefully preserved.

Overall, I found the visit cosy, nostalgic, and easy to enjoy. It may not be a large attraction, but there was something special about standing inside an address that has lived in people’s imagination for generations. A simple but memorable stop during my time in London.
