Peranakan Cuisine at Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery

If you love hearty Peranakan Cuisine, you might like this restaurant. Step into this restaurant and you will feel like you have gone back to the good old days.

Here’s what I have tried during this trip.

Asam grilled prawn is one good dish for your palette if you aren’t good with spicy food.

The gravy of this curry chicken is savoury and it is not as heavy as some places. This is a good companion to your bowl of rice

Sambal petai is spicy and interesting dish. Petai, also known as bitter bean has an acquired taste. There’s an after taste of this bean and if it is not cooked in sambal, I definitely will not like it.

Coming from Singapore where Stingray is always barbequed, cooking it in Asam is really a breath of fresh air. This dish, asam stingray really completes a true Peranakan experience.

I strongly suggest trying this unique ice nutmeg. It’s not as pungent as I thought it would be. The drink is soothing to the palate and quenches my thirst.
