Sensoji temple is one of the oldest and most popular Buddhist temples in Tokyo. People come to this temple to pray mainly to the Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin.
Rain or shine, devotees come to this temple to pray. This temple was destroyed during World War 2 and later rebuilt. This rebuilt was like a symbol of rebirth.
A gigantic paper lantern hangs at “Thunder Gate” suggesting thunderclouds and lightning. During festival processions, the lantern will be raised to allow festival cars to go through.
After passing through the Thunder Gate, an iconic 5 level pagoda stands tall in the premises.
Nakamise Shopping Street
Just outside the temple there’s a wide variety of stalls along the street. This is also known as Nakamise shopping street. I can get souvenirs to food at this area.
The rain doesn’t stop people from coming to the temple and definitely doesn’t stop them from shopping at the street.
With snacks, toys and different merchandises that can be purchased here, this is definitely a vibrant scene to witness.
I was spoilt for choice with all these souvenirs to choose.
